INFLUENCE OF ENTREPRENEURIAL ORIENTATION ON BUSINESS PERFORMANCE AND THE INFLUENCE OF ENTREPRENEURIAL ORIENTATION ON BUSINESS PERFORMANCE AND LOCAL DEVELOPMENT. EMPIRICAL ANALYSIS IN THE PROVINCE OF CÁCERES

In order to research the entrepreneurship-performance relationship, there is a multidimensional construct, the so-called called Entrepreneurial Orientation (EO), that allows researchers to compare the entrepreneurial behaviour of different enterprises. Therefore, the first objective of this project is to apply this construct (EO) to assess the state of entrepreneurship in Cáceres so as to know how the businesses of this province capitalize their entrepreneurial commitment and what the influence of their EO in the regional development is. Considering that the business fabric of Cáceres is constituted mainly by companies with fewer than 250 employees, and that there are previous studies (e.g., Lumpkin & Dess, 1996) indicating that not all dimensions of the EO have the same influence on the firm performance, we also aim to study what is the individual influence of these dimensions (innovativeness, proactivity, risk, competitive aggressiveness and autonomy) on business performance in order to know where both the firms of Cáceres and the Public Aministrations interested in promoting entrepreneurship have to focus their efforts . To do this, and based on the literature review on EO, its definition, its dimensions and measurement scales, we develop and implement a questionnaire to measure the constructs object of this research (EO, performance and development), ad we statistically analyze the relationships among them.
